Wild Clay Ash Glazed Platter

Wild Clay Ash Glazed Platter

£180.00

This low platter is thrown from a native Scottish clay dug in Glasgow’s West End, and with a mixed wood ash glaze.

The wild clay is very rich in iron and goes dark in the reduction firing, showing varied inclusions. The high proportion of iron in the clay has made the ash glaze go a bit crazy, beading into very dark green glassy pools. The inclusions in the clay have melted with the ash glaze adding further interest and texture to the surface.

The textured surface means the platter is probably best as a display piece rather than for food use.
