Wild clay Tenmoku vase
Wild clay Tenmoku vase
Thrown from two Scottish native stoneware clays, one of which being recycled canal liner ‘puddle’ clay, and Tenmoku glazed.
The vase was thrown from very soft clay to allow a gently distorted form. Inclusions in the clay body bubble and melt in the firing, adding interest and texture to the surface with pitting and raised areas.
The finish on the Tenmoku glaze is very dependent on thickness of application and shows some variation from semi-matt rusty red through to rich gloss black.
This vase does hold water but I would always advise not to place unprotected on furniture if water is being held for any length of time. The varied texture of the wild clay might leave tiny pathways in the walls and base through which water could eventually pass.
